Your car's transmission system has a critical component in the form of the gearbox oil seal. An oil pan can be likened to a large bowl holding the transmission fluid. This fluid is critical because it keeps your car functioning properly. A lack of fluid or dirty fluid acts like ice cream in a sundae — if your car doesn’t have too much of it, or if the fluid is dirty, it could lead to major problems. If you didn’t take care of your car it wouldn’t drive well and it can even get damaged in some situations as well. Therefore, to a car owner, oil pan and its function are critical to understand.
Step 1: The first step is to raise your car off the surface. You can do this securely using a vehicle jack. Now once the vehicle goes up, insist on placing jack stands below it to make it secure. This is crucial for your safety when working on the car.
Step 3: Following, you will have to remove the bolts which hold the oil pan into position. Remove these carefully with a wrench or a socket. Make sure you keep these bolts somewhere safe, perhaps in a small container so you do not misplace them. You’ll need them later to attach the new oil pan.
Step 4: With the bolts out of the way, you’re ready to drain the old transmission fluid. You can achieve this by simply loosening the drain plug found just at the bottom of the oil pan. Allow the fluid to drain into the drain pan. Caution, the fluid may be hot!
Step 6: At this point, it is time to put the bolts back on the oil pan. Just make sure you tighten them according to the manufacturer’s directions. This is to make sure that everything stays where it should, and no leaks occur at a later time.
One of the biggest challenges is leaks. Checking for these leaks on a regular basis is critical. If you see any puddles under your parking spot, be sure to take care of it immediately. Mending leaks promptly can spare you from bigger issues down the road.
Incorrect Installation – If the oil pan is not installed properly it can cause leaks and other problems. Never use a new oil pan without following the manufacturer’s in-structions closely. Making sure of things can save you hassle down the road.
